ANGEL TAVERAS STATEMENT ON RECENT ARRESTS IN OPERATION DECEPTION  PROVIDENCE

PROVIDENCE  - Providence Democratic Mayoral candidate Angel Taveras released the following statement today following today's arrests in Operation Deception.

"Today’s indictment of a fourth Providence Police officer as part of Operation Deception is outrageous and disappointing. Violating the public trust, at any level of government, is disgraceful and intolerable - especially by those who are sworn to uphold and enforce the law." 

"These recent abuses threaten to turn back years of progress made in rebuilding the bond of trust between the police and the community. While these individuals have violated the public trust and struck a blow to the department’s morale, the actions of a few should in no way reflect upon the hundreds of brave men and women who serve honorably on the Providence Police force." 

"I commend the State Police for boldly tackling public corruption and support their independent investigation into holding law-breakers accountable to the full letter of the law."

"As Mayor I will appoint a Public Safety Commissioner and, within the first one hundred days of my administration, I will lead a comprehensive, top-to-bottom review of the department including a review of hiring, promotion and internal affairs policies and the record of the senior leadership in the department."
