Angel Taveras Continues to be Top Grassroots Fundraiser in Mayor's Race
Taveras raises over a Quarter Million Dollars in the first four months of his campaign.

PROVIDENCE - Providence Democratic Mayoral candidate Angel Taveras announced last week that, since he announced his campaign four months ago, his campaign has raised over a quarter million dollars - exceeding $255,000. 

The Taveras campaign raised approximately $140,000 in the second quarter of 2010 - outpacing his opponents for a second straight quarter in fundraising. In the second quarter, the campaign received contributions from nearly 700 donors.  Once again, small donors and the power of the Internet powered Taveras' fundraising.  Nearly 450 donations were $100 or less.  And approximately 225 donations came via the Internet.  Finally, more than 99% of the contributions to the Taveras campaign came from individuals instead of PACs.

“Despite not self-funding his campaign or taking campaign contributions from city workers and city vendors, our campaign's fundraising has been spectacular,” said campaign manager Lauren Nocera. “The people of Providence want a Mayor who will bring people together and move Providence forward to create jobs, strengthen our schools and run an ethical and open city government. The people are investing in Angel as the candidate that will deliver these results.”
