CLEAN WATER ACTION ENDORSES ANGEL TAVERAS FOR MAYOR

PROVIDENCE - Angel Taveras announced today that he has received the endorsement of Clean Water Action

Clean Water Action is a national organization of 1.2 million members working to empower people to take action to protect America's waters, build healthy communities and to make democracy work for all of us. For 36 years Clean Water Action has succeeded in winning some of the nation's most important environmental protections through grassroots organizing, expert policy research and political advocacy focused on holding elected officials accountable to the public.

Clean Water Action’s Rhode Island Director Sheila Dormody stated, “We are proud to announce our endorsement of Angel Taveras for Mayor of Providence.  Angel’s 5 point environmental program focuses on reducing Providence’s carbon footprint and positioning Providence as a leader in the rapidly growing green economy.  These measures are just what our capitol city needs to move forward.  We look forward to working with him when he is elected to help him implement his ambitious plan.”

Angel Taveras declared, “As Mayor, I will make Providence an international leader in environmental stewardship because these far-ranging issues of global warming and energy independence are deeply connected to local issues such as our city budget and the ability of city families to have affordable energy and food costs." He added, “I look forward to bringing the city's environmental and renewable energy activists into City Hall with me so that we can work together to make the dream of a clean energy economy a reality.  I am deeply committed to passing this world on to our children cleaner and safer than we found it."

Dormody concluded, “Angel Taveras has an smart environmental plan, and a history of taking tough positions to make necessary changes.  We urge the Providence residents to vote for Taveras, for a cleaner environment and a better future for all Providence families.”
