CITY COUNCILMAN SETH YURDIN ENDORSES ANGEL TAVERAS FOR MAYOR

PROVIDENCE - City Councilman Seth Yurdin (D-Ward 1) today endorsed Angel Taveras for Mayor of Providence and urged city voters to support him.

“I support Angel because I know he can lead Providence to build stronger schools, protect our environment, create jobs and be a strong voice for the taxpayer," said Yurdin. "Angel's five-point environmental plan is just what our City needs to be an environmental leader. I look forward to working closely with him to green our city and school buildings, increase city composting and investing in new community gardens.  Most important, I trust Angel to advocate for the institutions that are the life-blood of our neighborhood - the Fox Point Library, our Senior Center, the Vartan Gregorian Elementary School, and the Boys & Girls Club."

Councilman Yurdin represents the neighborhood of Fox Point and portions of College Hill, and Wayland Square.  First elected in 2006, Yurdin has served on the Ordinances Committee, the Committee on Public Works, the Committee on Claims and Pending Suits and is the Chair of the Committee on State Legislation.

“I am humbled and honored by the support of Councilman Yurdin, an incredible city leader who has fought to protect our environment, increase police accountability and deliver resources for our neighborhoods,” said Taveras.  “Since the beginning of this campaign, I have been committed to uniting a broad and diverse coalition of city residents.  With this endorsement, we continue to build that coalition.”

In the first four months after announcing his campaign for Mayor, Angel Taveras has built a wide-ranging coalition of supporters including State Senator Juan Pichardo, State Senator Rhoda Perry, State Representative Edith Ajello, State Representative Grace Diaz, City Councilman Kevin Jackson, City Councilman Cliff Wood, City Councilman Leon Tejada, City Councilman Miguel Luna, City Councilman Seth Yurdin, Meeting St. CEO John Kelly, Drinking Liberally founder Chris Blazejewski, attorney Casby Harrison, former US Attorney Meg Curran, attorney Kas DeCarvalho, youth jobs leader Andrew Cortes, progressive blogger Brian Hull, the Ward 5 Democratic Committee, community leader Jim Vincent, former Common Cause director Phil West, activist Tomas Avila, Ward 9 Democratic chairman Russell Conway, Ward 10 chairwoman Yvette Jacques, veteran political leader Victor Capellan, and previous gubernatorial candidate and former state senator Myrth York.
